Regarding recent remarks by the former president Chen Shui-bian that he had made donations to the DPP in the past, Director of Department of Culture and Information Cheng Wen-tsang confirmed that the party had indeed received 340 million dollars from the former president. According to Director Cheng, the former president had been an important leader in the DPP, and as a result, he had the responsibility to help the party financially. Cheng also said that the former president had fulfill his financial responsibilities to the DPP, and as a result he had donated money leftover from funds raised during his two presidential election campaigns to the party headquarter.
